Antique Octant by W. Gerrard, Liverpool.


A fine late 19th century navigators Octant, brass frame with tulip frame design. Engraved on the arc W. Gerrard, Liverpool. Also engraved MAKER TO THE ROYAL NAVY.


The silver scale is engraved from -5  degrees to 130 degrees and can measure angles up to 108 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc.

Octant radius 7.5 inches / 19 cm.


This antique Octant is contained within a keystone shaped hardwood box with applied trade label for Alexander Cairns, Liverpool. It comes with two telescopes, one eye piece sun filter and mirror adjusting tool.
