SORRY THIS ANTIQUE SHIPS BELL HAS BEEN SOLD.

This is the signal bell from the steel three masted and fully rigged sailing ship YOLA. This bell would have been mounted on top of the helm box, which was located next to the ships wheel at the stern of the ship. The ship would have also carried a larger fog bell, that would have been located at the bow of the ship.

The YOLA was built in Glasgow by John Reid & Co, Shipbuilders, Glasgow in 1892 and launched in July of that year, the ship was 228 feet long with a beam of 38.5 feet and had a gross tonnage of 1490. The YOLA was registered in the port of Liverpool and owned by McDiarmid, Greenshields & Co, in 1911 the ship was sold to a Danish  shipping company and in 1918 she was sold again to a Norwegian shipping company.

At the turn of the Century these environmentally friendly merchant sailing ships were rapidly being replaced by the coal burning steamships, eventually the YOLA fell victim to this modernisation and the ship was broken up and scrapped in 1925.
