Antique ship's watch lantern by Bulpitt, stamped 1916.
A top quality ships lantern constructed from brass with single glazed panel, swing carry handle with wooden bail grip. Sliding side door access panel, hinged chimney top and silvered flame refelctor.
Complete with an original slide in oil burner which is stamped Eli Griffiths & Sons, Birmingham, 1912.
Both Bulpitt and Eli Griffiths made this type of lantern and probably made to meet a Royal Navy / British Admiralty pattern. - In use the ships crew just refuelled the oil burners and put them back into any lantern, hense the miss match of components.
Height to top of chimney 13 inches / 33 cm.
Height including handle 17 inches / 43 cm.
This type of ship's watch lantern would have been used by crew members, whilst they were 'on watch' and carrying out the ships inspection and safety rounds.
