A fine early 20th century navigators Sextant with 'Double Curve' frame design. Beautifully hand engraved on the arc Reynolds & Son Ltd, 14 London St, London. EC.
The silver scale is engraved from -5 degrees to 155 degrees and can measure angles to 129 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver Vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc.
This sextant has a 7 inch radius.
Box measures W 28 / D 26 / H 13 cm
This antique Sextant is in superb condition and is contained within its original hardwood box. It comes complete with all its accessories - Three telescopes, telescope sun filter and mirror adjusting tool.
The history of Reynolds & Son is not well documented, it is thought they were in established around 1854 and traded from 14 London Street, London. They specialised in nautical instruments and became a limited company in 1909. during the 1930’s they merged with the equally renowned company John Lilley & Son and the new company became Lilley & Reynolds Ltd.
