A superb and rare late 19th century navigators Sextant, Royal Navy pattern 'Bell' frame design. Engraved on the arc Heath & Co Ltd, Crayford, London. No.8106
The silver scale is engraved from -5 degrees to 155 degrees and can measure angles up to 131 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver Vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc. 7 inch radius.
It is contained within its original hardwood box that has a patent push button sextant release mechanism and brass carry handle. It is also complete with all its accessories - three telescopes, one spare eyepiece, two eyepiece sun filters and mirror adjusting tool.
This example also has a rare HEATH'S Patent greatest angle clamp and also has the HEATH'S Patent Definition Shade fitted to the horizon mirror.
The last certificate of examination label is dated August 1908.
