A fine mid to late 19th century navigators Octant. Brass frame with tulip frame design. Beautifully hand engraved on the arc - W. Hooper & Son, Portsmouth.
The silver scale is engraved from -5 degrees to 130 degrees and can measure angles up to 105 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver vernier scale reads from 0 to 15 seconds of arc.
Octant radius 7.5 inches / 19 cm.
This antique Octant is contained within its original hardwood box. It comes complete with all its accessories - two telescopes, one eye piece sun filter and mirror adjusting tool.
